What's Up #4! At least I think it's #4: Update: End of Summer

Hello everyone. How have you been? It's been just about 2 weeks since my last post, yikes! I apologise for my absence but I decided that I needed to spend a little time away from the blog because I was just feeling really out of everything. I was in a bit of a glum slum, but now I'm back and I'm ready to go.
I have a few ideas for upcoming post. I'm definitely going to be posting an August Favourites, so look out for that one very soon. I'm also planning to do a lipstick post focusing on the L.A Colors Hydrating Lipsticks, I don't know when I'll be posting that one but I'm hoping it will be within the next week.

This week I signed up to take part in a makeup workshop and I'm super excited. We'll be learning some tips and tricks from a professional makeup artist and of course I'll be very willing to share some of what I learn with everyone. I'm also going to use this experience with the workshop to gauge if I really would like to look into makeup artistry as a profession. Although my heart belongs to psychology and my dream is to become a Forensic Psychologist, there's no rule dictating that I can't be a freelance makeup artist also. Who knows, freelancing as a makeup artist can help me pay for my Masters and I do love makeup, everything about it, which is one the main reasons I started this blog in the first place.

Now, most people love summer since it's a great time to go partying and hang out with friends or go clubbing. I love summer because of conventions. Now I've never been to a convention but I want to go so badly! Comic-Con and PAX Prime...I'll see you someday, I will find a way to you *sniffle*. I'm so excited for the announcement of new games, the launch of game trailers, I mean have you seen the Pokken announcement! A Tekken style, Pokemon fighting game....shut up and take my money! Also, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be launching soon!!<---(Pokemon Nerd I am!) A new Saints Row was announced today and yes I want it! I'm also wanting to get my hands on Minecraft because believe it or not I've never played it but all summer I've been hooked on Minecraft thanks to a series known as Mianite (#TeamIanite for life!) If you've never heard of Mianite, I highly recommend you check it out, it involves a bunch of awesome YouTubers and it's just so much fun to watch.

The lasst thing on my mind is.....Doctor Who! DOooooooo Weeeeeeeee Doooooo! (yes I had to do that!) The new season/series has started and I honestly like the darker vibe of Capaldi's Doctor. I'm not going to spoil the episode if you haven't seen it yet, but I think it was a good introduction of the 12th Doctor and I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store. (Please Steven Moffat, don't have too many feels inducing moments, my fragile emotions can't handle it!)

Anyways, that's enough rambling from me for now, so until my August Favourites post, I'll talk to you all very soon and as always, stay positive, stay healthy and stay happy.
Bye (^_______^/)

Product Rave: Avon Single Eyeshadow

Hello everybody, how have you been this week? I've been wanting to do a post about these Avon eyeshadows ever since I bought them, but for a few months on the Avon website, they were marked as no longer available. So, I've been waiting patiently for them to come back onto the website before doing this post.

I'm just going to get it out of the way and say, I freaking love these eyeshadows!!! (/^__^/)
These single eyeshadows come in three different finishes, matte (M), shimmer (S) and metallic (Me). I have 6 of these shadows in total out of the 20 shades available, 4 shimmer shades (S) and two matte (M).
The shades I have, starting on the left hand side,
Avon Single Eyeshadows
  1. Satin Taupe (S)
  2. Bronze Luster (S)
  3. Copper (S)
  4. Mauved (S)
  5. Plum Burgundy (M)
  6. Beige (M)
Why do I love these Avon single eyeshadows?
  • Beautifully pigmented
  • Glide on like butter
  • Buildable
  • Easy to blend including the matte shades
  • Affordable (these are US$4 on Avon's website, however prices vary if they are being purchased from an Avon representative)
Here are swatches from each of the shadows, each eyeshadow was swatched using only one swipe of the sponge tip applicator.

My Faves of the bunch are, Satin Taupe, Mauved and Copper!

The only major con/dislike I have with this particular product is that it does not come with a mirror. I'm aware that most single eyeshadows don't have their own mirror but they is more than enough space on the lid of the packaging to put a mirror. However, it doesn't in any way deter me from using these shadows at all.
Sleek black packaging with AVON inscribed on lid
Avon Eyeshadow in Mauved. Inside look of the packaging.

These eyeshadows are absolutely beautiful, and will continue to be staple in my collection. My only hope is that Avon does not discontinue or reformulate these eyeshadows because I think they hit the nail on the head perfectly with these bad boys. I highly recommend these for anyone looking for affordable, pigmented and easy to work with single eyeshadows or if you're eyeshadow hoarder like me.
Until next time, stay happy, stay positive, stay healthy.
Bye-Bye ^_^

Skincare Empties: Likes, Dislikes and Everything in Between

I promised that I would have two post up this week and I'm a girl who keeps my promises.

Today, I'm going to share with you my most recent skincare products that I've used up and whether I love them enough to repurchase them or if they fail miserably and were a waste of money.

Products:
  1. Freeman's Clay Mask Mint and Lemon - Love it! Leaves my face feeling refreshed and clean, definitely will repurchase.

  2. Freemon's Facial Polishing Mask Charcoal and Black Sugar - Love it! I did a blog post about this mask, and I can't stop praising it. It helped to reduce the number of blackheads I had. Highly recommend this mask for anyone with oily skin or prone to blackheads.

  3. Simple Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner - Eh....it's okay but it's definitely not my favourite. My favourite toner/astringent is the Bioré Blemish Treating Astringent. If you have super sensitive skin or dry/normal skin the Simple Toner would be great for you but for me it just didn't make a difference. Will not be repurchasing.

  4. Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Light Moisturizer - I do like this and I've already repurchased this product. It's lightweight as the name implies and very moisturizing. My only problem is that my skin tends to get oily when I used coming down to the end of the bottle. That never happened in the beginning, so I'm quite perplexed as to why it happened. Nonetheless, it's a great moisturizer that is not super heavy, so I don't mind busting out the blotting sheets once in a while.

  5. L'Oreal Youth Code Serum Corrector - I'm officially on my fourth one of these, so if that isn't love I don't know what is! It leaves my face feeling baby soft and luminous (not oily). It makes my skin looks as though it's naturally glowing and it has reduced my hyperpigmentation dramatically. I love it! I love it! I love it!

  6. Simple Kind To Skin Vital Vitamin Night Cream - I have a love/hate relationship with this guy, one night I absolutely love it because it's very moisturising and it makes your face feel plump and nourished (good!)  but the next night it just feels heavy and greasy and my face looks and feels oily (bad!!). I'm currently trying out the Garnier  Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream as an alternative to this Simple Night Cream and I'm liking it so much more, so I won't be repurchasing the Simple Night Cream.

  7. Olay Age Defying Eye Gel (not pictured) - Hate it! I had to be upfront about this, I cannot stand this eye gel. It does absolutely nothing. It made my eye area oilier than it usually is, my dark under eye areas looked as though they got darker and I just...I don't like it one bit! Will not repurchase this at all!
Now, I really don't want to end this post negatively, so I'll mention my favourite face wash and scrub which I keep in stock because I love them. My favourite face wash is the St. Ives Blemish Control Green Tea Gel Cleanser and my favourite facial scrub is the St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub. Both contain salicylic acid, are oil-free  and both absolutely amazing.

We've reached the end of today's post, but I will be back next week with a new post and it will be Avon related. I'm super excited to get working on that Avon post and it isn't a haul, I've been trying to behave myself and not shop for makeup as much as I usually do. So until then have a great weekend, a great week, stay happy, stay positive and I will see you soon.

Bye-Bye :)

Makeup Battle Royale #2 : Eyeliner Throwdown: L'oreal Infallible Super Slim vs Milani Eye Tech Extreme

Hey everyone, how have you been? It's been a while since my last post. Had an awkward fall last week and hurt my left hand and wrist so I wasn't able to post anything last week and I'm sorry. I'm planning on making up for it by doing a double posting this week. Yep, that's right, two posts in one week!

Today's post is another makeup battle royal, two products battling it out for supremacy. Which of these liners do I prefer, well you'll have to keep reading to find out...
It's time for a felt tip pen liquid eyeliner throwdown! (Such a mouthful, lol!)

The Look:
L'Oreal Infallible Super Slim 8 hour liquid liner pen (top)
Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner (bottom)

  • Very similar, both are pure black with gold detailing and a cushion grip
  • Both contain 1ml of product
  • Both made in Germany
The Tip:
L'Oreal Liner

Milani Liner
  • Long, felt tip applicator on both
  • The L'Oreal liner tip is firmer
  • Milani is more flexible and malleable.
  • Both liners can achieve an extremely thin liner look and a bolder, more dramatic liner look, by varying the pressure you use when applying it to the eye.
 Pigmentation:
  • Both are extremely pigmented and dry to a slightly matte finish.

Swatches
Doesn't seem as though there is a clear cut winner here does it? Well, the liner that wins, is the one with the better staying power. As an oily skin girl, I need a liner to stay put all day long, until I decide to take it off. The liner that does that is.........the......Milani Eye Tech!!
  • The Milani Eye Tech blows the L'Oreal liner out of the water in terms of staying power for me. Usually, the L'Oreal Super Slim 8hr smudges badly within 2 hours and that's with eye primer on. No bueno! Milani Eye Tech stays put, no smudging, no flaking with or without a primer.
I recommend the Eye Tech over the Super Slim to my friends whether they have oily, dry or normal skin. In Trinidad, the Milani Eye Tech can be purchased at Wonderful World (that's where I got mine) or you could order it online from Milani's website.

I really wanted to like the Super Slim liner, however, it failed to life up to it's claim of 8 hour wear. The Eye Tech liner I've had for over 6 months and it hasn't dried out, which is quite impressive. I will continue to repurchase the Eye Tech Extreme liner, until I can find felt tip liner that knocks it off of it's pedestal.

This concludes this Makeup Battle Royale!! Congratulations Milani, you've knocked out your opponent and taken the crown. Thanks for sticking to the end everyone. Hope you all are having a great week, stay positive, healthy and happy and I will see you later this week for another post!
Bye Bye :)
