Hiatus Over! - L.A. Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick Review

Hello everyone!!
Welcome back! I'm so happy to return to regular posting now that my semester is finally over!
In the past 3 weeks, I've been buried in assignments and examinations, but now I'm back.

I've been testing products over the few weeks, and today I'm going to do a quick review of L.A. Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick in the shade Spicy.
L.A. Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick - Spicy

A few months ago, I did a full blog post about the L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss, which I absolutely love, so I decided to try out this newer line of lipsticks from L.A. Girl. I chose the shade Spicy from some swatches I viewed, because it looked like a velvety brownish, red. I managed to find it at Wonderful World back in November.
With a name like Spicy, I anticipated it being more red, however, this lipstick is straight chocolate brown on the lips in person, although, in swatches and pictures more of the red comes through.

Lip Swatch of Spicy - L.A. Girl

Hand Swatch - Spicy (L.A. Girl)
I've worn it multiple times since purchasing it, and I'm going to come right out as say that I really do like it. I was expecting the worse, because there are some brands that get matte lipsticks incredibly wrong, but L.A. Girl did a great job. Here are some of my personal pros and cons of this lipstick.

Pros:
  1. Non-drying - because the finish of the lipstick is more of a flat velvet, as opposed to a true matte finish, it does not dry out my lips.
  2. Creamy texture
  3. Pigmented - one swipe gives opaque colour.
  4. Inexpensive - I paid TT$22. for mine at Wonderful World here in Trinidad, and on the L.A. Girl Website, it  retails for US$4.00
  5. Long Lasting - I've worn this lipstick multiple times on my longer days, just to test how well it wears while eating, drinking, and speaking. I usually only need to reapply at the center of my lips, after eating.
  6. Scent - This lipstick smells like a vanilla cupcake.
  7. Colour Selection - This specific collection comes in a wide range of colours, and I will definitely be picking up more, for family and friends this Christmas, if they're in stock!
Cons: I honestly can't think of any (@__@)

Would I recommend this lipstick to a friend? - Yes, 10/10 would recommend! Hands down one of the best lipsticks I've used in quite some time.

My camera is currently down, and in need of some repairs, so the picture quality in some of the future posts are going to be a bit shoddy, since I'll be relying on my phone. I was playing to invest in a new camera, however, with the cost of my textbooks, my new camera fund transformed into Psychology textbook fund.

I will be doing a post all about my first semester of Postgraduate studies, so please stayed tuned for that.
Again thank you for being patient and waiting for the end of the hiatus, but I really needed the time to focus on my examinations and assignments.

Thank you all so much for returning the J's Mind Palace. it feels so good to be back talking to you all again, I can't wait to share more with you all.
Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and positive. Please stay safe out there everyone!

Bye (^_^)/

Blog Hiatus! - Taking a Break.

Hello everyone.

Due to the volume of assignments and examinations that I have in the upcoming weeks, I have decided that it will be in my best interest to take a bit of a break from blogging to focus on my work. I wish I didn't have to take the hiatus, but sadly I would be stretching myself far too thinly, to maintain a good academic standing, as well as maintaining the blog.
The hiatus will last for three (3) weeks. On Friday December 18th, I shall return to regular posting.

I hope you all remain safe during the time I am away.
Thank you all so much for the continuous support, I shall see you all very soon.

Bye!

First Impression Review: Maybelline Pump Up Colossal Mascara

Hello everyone!
Today's post is a first impression/quick review of the Maybelline Pumped Up Colossal Mascara.
Maybelline Pumped Up Mascara in Classic Black

I wore it for the first time last night, I have to admit I was impressed. It gave my lashes great volume, and some definition. It was easily available without getting clumpy. The formula in my eyes is the perfect consistency, not too wet or too dry, and it applies beautifully onto the lashes, and it stays put. I've also had no flaking and I have not seen any smudges either.

Colossal Wand (top), Pumped Up Wand (bottom)
The brush is massive, so it helps build volume. The bristles are short and spiky towards the ends, and slightly longer in the middle, grabbing each lash for full volume and definition. I don't have the best eyelashes in the world, but this mascara makes them look full and lush.
Compared to the regular Colossal Mascara from Maybelline, I do prefer the wand of the Pumped Up a lot more.
Wearing Pumped Up Colossal on my lashes
For a random mascara pick up, I am surprised. I'm not a hardcore Maybelline mascara fan, but this mascara is good.
I'd honestly repurchase the Pumped Up over the regular Colossal any day.
Pumped Up has won my heart...a bit
Thanks for stopping by today. I know the post is very short, but I have multiple assignments due soon, so I have to put a lot of time into those.
However, this is a first impression, so I wouldn't have a lot to say after just one use.
As always, I hope you have a safe and fun weekend. If you're a student like me, make it a productive weekend.
Stay healthy, positive and happy, and I shall talk you again next Friday.
Bye (^_^)/

Product Review: L.A Girl Pro Conceal in Pure Beige

Hello everyone!!

I finally have another makeup review for you today...yay!

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal, is a very popular product. From Youtube to Instagram, this product is a rave hit, and after listening to Youtuber Jackie Aina, rave about this product, I finally decided to cave and give it a try.

For those of you who need shade references; my best foundation matches are;
  1. MAC Studio Fix Fluid NC44
  2. Maybelline Matte and Poreless 310 Sun Beige
FYI, I actually use the shade Pure Beige mainly as a foundation, because it seamlessly matches my skin tone. I do use it to conceal my dark circles occasionally, because I personally don't like the ultra highlighted undereye look on myself. When I do use it as an undereye concealer, I set with my Sacha Buttercup powder (loose), and I get of softly brighten undereye area.

Swatch of L.A. Girl Pro Conceal in Pure Beige
Pros:
  • Inexpensive - I bought mine on sale, however, the price can vary between $50TT-$65TT.
  • Creamy, easily blendable
  • Super pigmented
  • No Creasing - I have super oily skin, once I set this with powder, it stays in place all day.
  • Doesn't clog pores
Cons:
  • Packaging - I hate the brush tip applicator! I would prefer either a jar, or doe foot applicator. The brush tip to me just obstructs getting the product out, and it allows for bacteria to build up easily.
This picture was taking yesterday, after class and running errands. I used the smallest amount of L.A. Girl Pro Conceal at 7:30 a.m. (under my eyes), and took this picture 2:30 p.m. I took this picture to see just how good the coverage is, and also the longevity of the finish. This concealer is one of the best investments I've made.

After 7 hours of wear.
Have you tried the Pro Conceal? or Do you have any concealer recommendations?
Feel free to leave them as a comment here or comment on my Instagram (@ladyjpsych) and/or Facebook (J's Mind Palace).

That's all from me today! I hope you all enjoyed, and thank you for taking time out of your day to visit me here. As usual, I shall be back next Friday with a new post. Stay happy, healthy and positive and I shall talk to you all soon.

Bye guys!

J's Thoughts #2: Self-Care (Coping with Stress)

Hello everyone!

Today, I'm slowing it down a little. I've just completed one of the most strenuous and exhausting weeks of my Masters', and I just need to take it easy. I can honestly say I've never felt this exhausted before. I'm used to being physically tired or physically drained, but feeling mentally depleted is kind of new to me, at least depletion to such a high degree.

I'm used to be tired and yawning constantly, but falling asleep on myself, and mentally blanking out in classes and conversation...that's very new.
To be honest, I'm struggling to write this post, because I can't concentrate on what I want to say or the point I want to get across, but I feel so exhausted, I just want to curl up in bed and not leave for another 2 days.

I figured that there may be many persons like myself who need some help with figuring out some good stress-coping (self-care) tips, so I'm just going to put a short-list of things I think are great for coping with stress, and that I'm actually going to be doing this weekend.

Self-Care (Stress-Coping) List
  1. Sleep - Sleep is essential for proper mental, emotional and physical functioning.
  2. Exercise - I may not look it, but I love to workout, and exercise is one of the best ways to reduce the levels of cortisol (stress hormone) in the body. Whether it is yoga, running, swimming or dancing, whatever you like to do to get active, do it!
    • P.S remember to remain hydrated
  3. Spa Day - Whether you choose to do it at home or go to a spa, spending some time to pamper yourself, is a great way to deal with stress. I personally prefer at home spa days, where I treat myself to a face mask, and/or do my nails, it is just a great way to unwind. Also, add some scented candles and some instrumental music...hello relaxation haven!
  4. Indulge in a hobby (Reading and Video Games)  - Hobbies are one of the best ways to reduce stress. It wouldn't be a hobby if you didn't enjoy doing it. Whatever your hobby is, set some time aside and just indulge yourself, it works wonders. Baking is one of my favourite hobbies, so I will be making some time to make some yummy baked goods this weekend.
    • Reading - Yes, reading. Novels, comics, graphic novels, anything besides your textbooks or work notes or newspaper. Leisure reading is a great way to unwind.
    • Video Games - Yes, video games! You didn't think I would forget about my beloved video games. Hearthstone, Sims 3, I'm coming back for this weekend...(T_T). Seriously, playing video games is one of my favourite ways to cope with stress, just being able to leave reality behind for a few hours, helps me.
  5. Music - Listening to music is always a great, and easy way to decompress and relax. If you love singing, sing your heart out!
*At this point, I've curled up at my desk about 10 in the past hour of writing this post*

As I end this post, I just really want to drive home the importance of de-stressing or relaxing, because it is essential. I know many of us would prefer to just keeping going, but no good comes from burning yourself out.  I am, myself learning how to relax. I'm so used to just pushing myself, that I forget to treat myself human sometimes...

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, take care of yourselves, and I hope to see you here again next Friday.
Bye guys!

October Makeup Favourites

Hello everyone!
We have hit the end of October 2015, and it is time for my monthly favourites. Some of these products I have spoken about in previous favourites posts, but there are 3 products that have fallen neatly into my daily routine.
Links to past reviews on products will be left at the end pf the post.

Makeup

Face:  Sacha Cosmetics Mattifier and ButterCup Powder

Sacha Mattifier and Buttercup Setting Powder (Loose)
I have reviewed these products in a couple previous posts, and I am surprised how easily they fit into my daily routine. The Buttercup powder, has dethrone my Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder in Medium and is now my go to loose powder, while the Mattifier pairs well with my e.l.f Mineral Face Primer, for flawless looking skin and maximum oil control.
The Buttercup powder is very finely milled, and it does not feel heavy or look cakey on the skin. Definitely a great investment.

Eyes: NYX Tinted Brow Mascara and Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner
NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Brunette and Milani Eye Tech Extreme in Blackest Black

If you need an easy way to keep your brows in place, while simultaneously filling them in, the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara is definitely a great, inexpensive option. I have the shade Brunette, which works really well for me, but I am very curious to try a darker shade. (For pics of this product in action check out my IG: @ladyjpsych).
I recently reunited with my beloved Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner, and I could not be happier. I was previously using the Jordana Fabuliner, which I enjoyed, however, the finer felt tip of the Eye Tech Extreme allows you to have more control over the thickness of your eyeliner compared to the Fabuliner. Although the Fabuliner is cheaper, I would honestly put out the extra for the Eye Tech Extreme.

Lips: Avon Ultra Glazewear Lipgloss in Palm Beach Pink and Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturizing Balm in Honey Love
Jordana Twist and Shine In Honey Love and Avon Ultra Glazewear Gloss in Palm Beach Pink
I have mentioned both of these products in multiple favourites posts, so I'll keep it short.
Both of these feel super comfortable on the lips. They are moisturing, and have a good amount of pigmentation. They are great for days when you aren't feeling to wear much on the lips, because they feel very light on the lips.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you so much for coming by the blog today. I hope you all enjoyed today's post. Feel free to let me know some of your favourite products for this month in the comments or over on my IG (@ladyjpsych). As always, I hope you have a great weekend, stay safe!
Until next time stay happy, healthy and positive.

Product Review: NYX Cosmetics Infinite Shadow Stick: Rose Gold

Hello everyone!
Today, I have another quick product review on a not so new product by NYX Cosmetics.
I purchased this product on sale at a local store (Wonderful World), and I figured I would put it to the test.
N.B - This product is currently on sale at NYX Cosmetics website. I am not sponsored or affiliated with NYX Cosmetics. All products purchased were with my own money.

NYX Infinite Shadow Stick in Rose Gold

Packaging:
  • This product is a non-retractable cream eyeshadow pencil. It is plastic pencil that you have to sharpen like a regular pencil. I personally would have preferred it being a retractable stick form similar to my beloved Avon Extralasting Shadow Pencils.

Close up of Packaging
Product:
  • Dry Formula
  • Pigmented
  • Crease Resistant and Smudgeproof
  • Waterproof
Compared to most cream/pencil eyeshadows, this one is quite drier in consistency, so it leaves a very small window for blending out, after being applied onto the lid. However, once it is blended out, it stays put all day. No smudging, no creasing, vibrant colour all day.
Swatch of Rose Gold Infinite Shadow Stick
Forewarning, the drier consistency does make applying liquid eyeliner evenly quite the task.
Should have probably taken off my glasses, but the dry consistency made my eyeliner jagged.

Final Thoughts:
I do like this product, specifically the colour and staying power, however, the consistency alone is enough to warrant not repurchasing this product or purchasing more from the line. It is not a necessity, nor do I reach for it every single day. Although it sits on my vanity, I'll quicker reach for my Avon Extralasting Eyeshadow Pencils since those are very creamy, and easy to blend, and are also very long wearing, smudge and crease resistant.
I would also recommend the Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Sticks, because they are super creamy and easy to blend, incredibly pigmented and last for ages on the eyes or in the waterline. In the end, the NYX Infinite Shadow Stick is not to me, an absolute most have product.

Conclusion:
Thank you all so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. A bit of a heads up, the next two weeks are going to be incredibly hectic since I have assignments, and assessments, so I may have to take a break from posting product reviews, but I have been thinking about chronicling my experience in my MSc. Clinical Psychology Postgraduate journey here on the blog, so that may become a brand new series here.
As always feel free to check out my Instagram (@ladyjpsych), and also my Facebook (J's Mind Palace). Until next time, stay happy, healthy, and positive.

Bye (^_^)/

Product Review: Sacha Cosmetics Buttercup Powder

Hello everyone!
Today, I have a very quick review on the Sacha Cosmetics Buttercup Loose Powder. For all my Trinbagonians, you can find Sacha products at Superpharm, Starlite, Pennywise and Sacha Image Centres throughout the country, and prices will vary. I paid between $55-$65. For all my foreign readers, this product is available for purchase on Sacha's website.
  • For reference, I am a L'Oreal True Match W6-W7, and Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless 310 Sun Beige. My skin tone is extremely warm, and you can very easily see the yellow tones in my skin.
Sacha ButterCup Loose Setting Powder
Product:
  • This powder is a very yellow setting powder. For anyone with extremely fair/light skin, this product may be too dark and too yellow for your skin tone.
  • The powder itself is very finely milled, and feels like velvet.
Application:
Me w. Sacha Buttercup Powder
Sometimes, I may just place the powder under my eyes and along the center of my forehead, but I am lucky enough to be able to use this powder as a full face setting powder, if I use it lightly. Also, I am just too lazy to use 2 different powders.

After brushing off the powder...My lighting sucks :(
Although it doesn't translate in the picture, in person, I do notice a brightening effect from the powder. I don't do the whole V under-eye concealer thing, so it isn't extremely noticeable as it would be if I were to include that step. If you're wondering why I don't do that step, it is just my preference.

Conclusion:
Sacha Buttercup Powder has been my go to powder for the past two months, and I never expected to enjoy it as much as I do. My first time encountering this product, the texture was very grainy, however, it seems that Sacha did some work to improve the quality, and now I don't want to be without it.
Sacha products have improved in quality, and I am planning on testing out some more products from their range when I can.

Please forgive the tardiness of this post, I had classes today, and now I am off to do assignments. Postgrad life yay!
Thank you all so much for stopping by, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Stay happy, healthy and positive, and I shall talk to you soon.
Bye (^_^)/

Product Review: Sacha Cosmetics Mattifier Face Primer

Hello everyone!

Today, I'm doing a very quick run down of the Sacha Cosmetics Mattifier Face Primer. I purchased this, along with the Sacha Buttercup Powder approximately a month ago, and I've been putting both to the test, however, I shall be reviewing them separately for the sake of time. (Basically, I have assignments due, and mid terms coming up so I need to get to work!)
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way affiliated with Sacha Cosmetics. All products are purchased by myself .

Product/Packaging:
Sacha Cosmetics Mattifier Face Primer
  • It is a simple and sleek, matte black squeeze tube packaging. Nothing incredibly fancy.

Product Swatch: Sacha Mattifier Face Primer
  • The product itself is a white cream, that blends out and instantly mattifies the skin. It does not leave behind any residue, nor does it leave the skin looking white or ghastly pale.
Claims:
  • Lightweight
  • Absorbs Excess Oils
  • Smooths the skin
  • Reduces appearance of Fine Lines and Pores
  • Dries invisible
Price:
  • This varies depending on where you purchase it. If you live in Trinidad, there are multiple Sacha Cosmetics Image Centres throughout the country where you can find this product. I purchased mine at Pennywise in Trincity Mall, and costed within the range of $32-$50 ( I lost my receipt...sorry)
  • If you don't live in Trinidad, you should be able to find the product online at Sacha's website for USD$20.
My Thoughts:

After using this product for 3 weeks consistently, I have to say whether I use it alone, or in conjunction with my e.l.f Mineral Face Primer, this Sacha Mattifier really does mattify. It lives up to all of it's claims, especially when it comes to reducing the appearance of pores, and smoothing out the skin. My foundations glide onto the skin and blend a lot easier. I do still have to blot throughout the day, but not as frequently as I usually have to. I tend to have to blot every 2 hours on the dot, but with this I can go 3-4 hours without the need to blot., and when I do blot, I only have to use half or 1 blotting paper as opposed to my usual 2. Yes, I normally go through 2 blotting papers every 2 hours when I'm either not wearing any makeup, or I wear makeup sans mattifier.

Wearing the Sacha Mattifier beneath my foundation. I'm a bit shiny after 5 hours w/o blotting.

Conclusion:

For a Caribbean girl like me, this mattifier is a great investment. We don't have easy access to many of the international brands mattifying products, and once we do find an option, it usually costs a lot more than its worth.
If you're in the market for a mattifier that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, you could consider this one, or if you want another alternative, Milk of Magnesia is a great mattifier, however, it can clog your pores if you use it everyday.

I hope you all enjoyed today's post, and I also hope you have a great weekend. I have a very busy weekend, and week coming up, however, I will attempt to have a post up on Friday as per usual. Thank you all so much for stopping by J's Mind Palace, and I hope to see you all again very soon.
Stay happy, healthy and positive!
Bye! (^_^)/

Product Review: NYX Tinted Brow Mascara

Hello everyone!
Welcome back to J's Mind Palace! I hope you all had a wonderful week, and are looking forward to the weekend. I have officially started my Postgraduate studies, and to be honest it is a bit overwhelming, but I am attempting to keep up my promise of posting every Friday for 2015.

For today's makeup product review, I will be talking about the NYX Cosmetics Tinted Brow Mascara in the shade Brunette. I picked mine up at Wonderful World here in sweet T and T (Trinidad and Tobago), for approximately $50-$60TT, however, if you live abroad you should be able to find it on NYX Cosmetics website.

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Brunette
My eyebrow hair is black/brown, however, I currently have purple ombrĂ© hair, and I wear black, metal-framed glasses, so I don't like going too dark or too warm, where my eyebrow products are concerned. The shade Brunette is a beautiful ashy brown, which works well for me.

Claims:
This specifically formulated gel adheres to skin and hair for filled, defined, and natural looking brows.

I've been using this product for approximately two weeks, I have to say I am very impressed, and that it does live up to its claim.
Before and After using the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara
Please forgive the slightly messy application, I applied the product right after I applied my Bio-Oil to my skin. P.S my skin isn't flawless, my phone camera was just being super nice today (@_@)

I don't have the greatest eyebrows naturally, I'm in the process of training them to grow, especially towards the tail because they are quite sparse, however, this Brow Mascara helps me to fake it until I get the growth I'm looking for. I've worn this product on some of the hottest days here in Trinidad, and it did not budge. It stood up through heat, humidity, and sweat, even afternoon naps without fading or smudging.
Eyebrows - NYX Tinted Brow Mascara, Lips - L.A. Girl Backstage
I really enjoy this product, and it is definitely going to become a go-to product for me especially since I'm now pursuing my Postgraduate studies, and I do have days where I need to look put together and professional, but I may not have the time engage in a full on brow routine.
I highly recommend this product, especially for all my glasses wearing friends out there, who are scared of fulling their eyebrows because they clash with your frames, this NYX Tinted Brow Mascara will give you defined brows that stay in place all day, but without the drama and fear.

I hope you enjoyed today's post, and thank you for stopping by today!
I hope you all have a wonderful day, and wonderful weekend.
Have fun, stay safe!
As usual stay happy, healthy and positive, and I shall see all of you lovely people soon!
Bye (^_^)/

September Favourites - Makeup and the return of Doctor Who

Hello everyone!
Welcome back to my blog. Today's post is going to be my September Favourites, however, before I get into the makeup, I need to geek out about the Series 9 Premiere of Doctor Who.

Undoubtedly one of the best premieres in recent Who history! Within the 5 minutes my jaw had hit the floor. I am not one to post *River Song's voice* "Spoilers", and I will not be posting any for the upcoming series! Last week's episode has me pumped up for tomorrow night's new episode. Also, Jenna Coleman is said to have filmed her last scenes as Clara Oswald, which means we will be seeing a new companion with the Doctor. We all wish Jenna the best in her future endeavours!

Now onto the makeup!
September Makeup Favourites
September was the month of lips and lashes for me. Theses are the products I used the most for September, and disclaimer, I did purchase all of these with my own money! I don't have any sponsors!

  • Revlon Colorstay Matte Balm - Shameless (Deep, vampy purple), and Standout (red)
  • Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Powder - 310 Sun Beige
  • Maybelline the Rocket Volum' Express Mascara - Black

I have a couple of products that I have been in the process of testing out, and they will be getting their own devoted post very soon. I have to keep this week's post very short, because I have 5 chapters of readings to do by Tuesday, so I really need to get back into it. However, I do hope you enjoyed, follow my Facebook page (J's Mind Palace) for some exclusive content, hauls and sneak peaks as well as my Instagram (@ladyjpsych) where I just post randomly. Also, as the new seasons of many of my favourite shows continue, I will be posting a Nerd Favourites hopefully in the coming month! Yay!

Thank you all so much for coming out and supporting my blog, I truly appreciate every view, you are all amazing! If you're having a bad week or rough month, hang in there you amazing person, things will get better! I send you warm hugs and tons of love xoxo

What's Up Series #8 - Update

Hello everyone!
Welcome back to J's Mind Palace, thank you so very much for stopping by today.

Today's post is going to be just a short and general update about life, and what changes may occur in the upcoming months.

I was only recently accepted into my Masters' Degree programme, and with classes starting as early as Monday, this may impact my ability to post every Friday like I promised for this year. I am in the process of brainstorming ideas for blog post and keeping notes on them to help ease the burden of figuring out what to post about. I am essentially, making a blog schedule, so I hopefully would not have to go without posting while doing my first semester of postgraduate studies.
What this also means is that I won't be able to allocate as much funds for purchasing products (makeup, games, skin care) as I would usually, because I will have books and other supplies to purchase, so there may not be as many makeup reviews as there has been for the past couple of months.

I am planning on doing a series of looks with my M.A.C Warm Neutral Palette. I was going to do it this week, however, I've been having some serious sinus issues this week, so I decided to put that off until a later date, and I will try to toss in some looks done with a couple of Makeup Geek Pigments I've purchased a couple months ago.I also have a hair care routine post coming in October.

If you would like to keep updated on the blog, and whether or not I would be able to post on any particular day, you can check out my Facebook page; facebook.com/jsmindpalace where I will keep you updated.

I do believe that is all for now, thank you again for stopping by, and I hope you have a lovely weekend.
I shall see you all again very soon, until then stay happy, healthy and positive!

Bye guys!

M.A.C Cosmetics Warm Neutral Palette Thoughts and Swatches

Hello everyone! Welcome back! Today, I'm doing a short post about the M.A.C Warm Neutral Palette, along with some swatches. I bought this palette last Tuesday at my local M.A.C store, and to be honest, I've been wanting this palette since it released last year, but I only just recently caved and decided to splurge. These are the first eye products I have ever bought from M.A.C because M.A.C is quite pricey here in Trinidad; this palette costs TT$840 = US$85 (on the M.A.C Cosmetic website).
Quick Look - M.A.C Warm Neutral Palette

Packaging:
Hard plastic casing, with a see-through plastic lid. It's very sleek, and lightweight. I do wish that instead of a see-through lid, there was a mirror, that would make it perfect for travel.
There is a label on the back that contains the name of each shadow and its finish.

The Shadows
This palette contains all warm neutral tones, with various finishes from Frost to Matte.
I will break down the palette according to rows, and having the corresponding name and finish of the shadows.

Closer look at the shadows in the M.A.C Warm Neutral Palette.

Swatches

Swatches of the First Row in the M.A.C Warm Neutral Palette
All of the colours in this row with the exception of Dance in the Dark, swatched and applied smoothly with good pigmentation. Dance in the Dark is extremely patchy, and powdery, it is quite a pain to work with.

Second Row

  • BrulĂ© (Satin)
  • Vanilla Extract (Frost)
  • Honey Lust (Luster)
  • Amber Lights (Frost)
  • Saddle (Matte)
Swatches
Swatches from 2nd Row
All the shadows in this row applied and swatched beautifully. Saddle unlike its fellow Matte brother Dance in the Dark, applied like butter, it did not skip, it just glided on in one swipe.

Third Row
Third Row - MAC Warm Neutral Palette
 From left to right
  •  Lemon Tart (Veluxe Pearl)
  • Creative Copper (Luster)
  • Butterfudge (Satin)
  • Divine Decadence (Velvet)
  • Unwind (Veluxe Pearl)
Swatches

Final Row Swatches
All the colours in this row, swatched and applied just as beautifully as the previos one. Lemon Tart and Unwind are definitely going to be shades I play around with. The swatches don't do either of those shades much justice, with Lemon Tart being a gorgeous light yellow gold pearl, and Unwind is the definition of smokey/dirty olive.

Final Thoughts
Despite the high price point, I'm quite impressed by the quality of the eye shadows in this palette. Like I mentioned earlier, this is my first time trying M.A.C eyeshadows, so for a newbie, this give quite a good first impression. With only one shade I can truly call a flop (Dance in the Dark), 14 out of 15 are good quality, very pigmented and soft, without them being crumbly. This is a permanent item in M.A.C's collection, so if you are interested, I recommend going to your local M.A.C store, and giving this guy a swatch. Although I do love this palette, because of the high price point, I can't say run and buy it, unless you want to splurge and spoil yourself like I did.

Thank you all so much for coming by today, I hope you enjoyed today's post. Before I say goodbye, I just wanted to announce that today, I have finally launched a Facebook page for J's Mind Palace! I decided to finally get over my fear of opening a Facebook page, dedicated strictly to my blog. I will leave a link to the end of this post. Thank you all for all the support for the past year, and I can't wait to post more content here.

Remember to have a safe and fun weekend, stay happy, healthy and positive and I shall see you all next Friday!
Bye-bye (^_^)/

Game Corner: The App Edition (Part 1) - Summoners War and Marvel Contest of Champions

Hello Hello everyone!!

How are you all today?

Game Corner is back, and today I am going to talk about two (2) mobile games that I have been playing non-stop for the past month or so. However, before I get started on this post, I just wanted to thank everyone who read my Skincare Routine post. That post surpassed 100 views, which was totally unexpected, and I am grateful to each and everyone one of you who took time out of your day to read and visit my blog. Thank you so much!

All the pictures in this post, are screenshots from my phone (Asus Zenfone 2)
This post like all of my other posts are NOT SPONSORED!
Now, let's get into these games!

Summoners War

Screenshot from my Asus Zenfone 2
Summoners War is a fantasy-based RPG (Roleplaying Game), where you summon a large variety of monsters, that you collect, train and battle with.
Hands down, this is one of the most graphically beautiful games I have ever played on a mobile. The characters, and environment are all in gorgeous 3D, and I've never had any issues running it on my ASUS Zenfone 2.
There are five (5) elements that the monsters are classified into:
  1. Fire
  2. Wind
  3. Water
  4. Light
  5. Dark
Screenshot from my Zenfone 2
Now like most mobile games, there are in-app purchases available, I personally don't make in-app purchases, so I struggle to get through levels from time to time, because the enemies, are really tough.....I'm looking at you Chimera! >.<
However, I approach this the way I approached old school Pokémon games, I grind until my arms hurt, then I grind some more. I love that this game allows you to use lower level monsters that you summon to power up your higher level and higher starred monsters, it helps with the grind life. I thoroughly enjoy this game, and I have been recommending it to my fellow smartphone owning RPG playing friends, and I would recommend it to you also.

Marvel Contest of Champions
Screenshot from my Zenfone 2
 I am a Marvel fangirl!!!
I will never in my life deny it. I love Marvel, She-Hulk is forever my favourite, and I'm still questioning why she hasn't been in an Avengers movie, nor why she hasn't had her own stand alone movie?!! What's up with that Marvel?!

I've gone totally off topic, so back to Contest of Champions, I was introduced to this game by one of my very best friends who told me he was hooked on this game, so of course I went ahead and downloaded it, and now I am hooked also.
This is a free to play fighting game, where you are summoned by 'The Collector' to fight in an epic battle against both villains and hereoes, in the ultimate "Contest of Champions".

This game is in full 3D, and it is very pretty, and the character models are awesome! For example, Gamora (pictured below):

Screenshot of Gamora - Zenfone 2
You collect champions through the use of crystals, which you can find throughout the game or you can purchase them through...you guessed it, in-app purchases ( I don't purchase anything in-app). Thus far I've obtained Hulk and Gamora, while Spiderman and Hawkeye I believe everyone starts off with.
This is one of those games I have found myself completely engrossed in, and I cannot remember when last a mobile fighting game has kept me coming back to it continuously. I'm very grateful that my friend recommended this to me, and I happily recommend it to you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This marks the end of this week's post, and I will like to thank you all for coming by and I hope you all have a very lovely weekend.
Like I mentioned last week, I won't be doing an August Favourites on my blog, but you can keep an eye out on my Instagram (@ladyjpsych) for my August Favourites over there.
I'm still considering starting a Facebook page for J's Mind Palace, but I haven't fully convinced myself to do that just yet.
Until next Friday, I hope you all stay happy, healthy and positive!
Bye (^_^)/

My Current Skin Care Routine

Hello everyone!
Welcome back to my blog. Today, as promised I bring to you the products that are in my current skin care regime.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog, and let's jump straight in!

Cleanser: Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser
I have always been a fan of Bioré face washes and cleansers, so I was really hoping to enjoy using this one also. Verdict: I really like this stuff. It cleans the face without stripping it, so essentially, after washing your face, it doesn't feel tight or uncomfortable. My face feels a lot smoother after using this wash, and looks brighter and more alive. I've recently repurchased this product, because I am almost out, and it cost TT$56 at SuperPharm.

Exfoliators: Frutique Papaya Enzyme Exfoliating Gel & Freeman Pink Grapefruit Exfoliating Scrub

Frutique Papaya Enzyme Exfoliating Gel
Frutique is a fairly new brand I've seen in SuperPharm, and I decided, why not give this a shot to see how it works. This exfoliating gel is considered to be a resurfacing gel that detaches dead skin cells and removes impurities. How it works, is you pump product onto your finger tips, massage into the face for 30-60 seconds, until you start to see your dead skin cells "appear in flakes". Those flakes for me a just big balls of gunk, that initially freaked me out! You do get used to it though, and after you rise with warm water (it has to be warm water, or else the flakes and product won't wash off properly), it's like your skin has just been revived. After using this, my skin looks brighter, my skin feels softer, and appears more even in terms of my skin tone. I really like this stuff, but if I do recall correctly, it is bit pricey between TT$75-TT$120, but to me it was worth it. Since purchasing, I actually had a week when I chose not to use this product, and my skin was not happy. I didn't realise that my skin needed something like this to truly remove dead skin and impurities.
N.B. It is recommended that you use this product twice a week, and I only use it at night!
Frutique Papay Enzyme Exfoliating Gel

Freeman Pink Grapefruit Exfoliating Scrub
This scrub is on the gentler end of exfoliating scrubs, it's not abrasive, it does not contain microbeads, and it smells heavenly.
I probably use this once or twice a week, depending on whether I've been wearing more makeup than I normally do, but I don't use it on the same day as my Frutique Exfoliating Gel. It does the same job as the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, but with a better scent and price (roughly TT$30), and not to mention it is very gentle on the skin, I would highly recommend this for sensitive skin guys and girls out there!
Freeman Pink Grapefruit Exfoliating Scrub
Toner: Witch Hazel

Serum: L'Oreal Youth Code Dark Spot Corrector Serum
I enjoy changing my skin care products every 3-4 months, so it is rare that I have one product that sticks around for an extended period of time. This product has been in my regime for approximately 2 years, maybe more, and I genuinely love it! It has been in past empties posts I've done, but this stuff just works for my skin and for getting rid of hyperpigmentation. It does cost TT$180, but it works!
L'Oreal Youth Code Dark Spot Corrector Serum

Day Cream: L'Oreal Youth Code Dark Spot Corrector Day Cream with SPF 30.
I figured if I love the serum, why not give the day cream a try. So far it's been working pretty well. It isn't super greasy, or too heavy for my skin, but it is a thick consistency creamy, so you only need to use a small amount to cover the surface of the face. I don't have any major complaints, but I am not 100% sure if I absolutely love it.
L'Oreal Youth Code Day Cream

Night Cream: Garnier Ultra Lift Miracle Sleeping Cream
Now I honestly don't think miracle is the correct word to describe this. This cream is marketed as an anti-age and anti-fatigue night cream, and claims that after the first use, the first morning, 93% of users said skin felt smoother & hydrated, while 77% said their skin looked well rested.
Well, after my first use I woke up with oily skin, but it did look brighter. After continued use, I still found that my skin would look bright, but not feel hydrated, it just looked oily.
The consistency of this product is very weird, it feels like pizza dough, and even smells that way also. It hasn't broken me out so I'll use it until I finish it but I don't see it becoming a necessity...and yes I know this is targeted towards older adults, but hey it's never too early for a near 24 year old to start thinking about anti-aging products.

Garnier Ultra Lift Miracle Sleeping Cream

Optional: Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream & Bio- Oil
These two products I rotate in and out of my routine, as moisturising options after having used my Frutique Exfoliating Gel. They both absorb into the skin quickly, and leave the skin feeling hydrated. The Bio-Oil has the added benefits of evening skin tone, reducing the appearance of scars. The Bio-Oil is roughly priced around TT$99, while the Garnier price, I cannot recall.
Bio-Oil and Garnier Moisture Rescue Gel Cream

This is my current skin care routine, and it will definitely be changing towards the end of the 2015, but I do hope you enjoyed. As always, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to visit J's Mind Palace, and I hope you will stop by again very soon. I won't be doing a dedicated favourites post this month, because I haven't really bought much new products that I haven't already spoken about, but I may post something over on my Instagram (@ladyjpsych).

Thanks again for dropping by, stay happy, healthy and positive, and I shall see you next Friday!
Bye (^_^)/

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer Review

Hello everyone!

I've had a very emotional week this week, and initially wasn't planning to post today. However, I decided that since I was near the end of my Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer, that I would a short and quick review for you all.

Before I get started, I just wanted to say thank you so much for 800 views on my blog. I'm very grateful for all your support ^w^.

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer

Rimmel London Fix & Perfect Pro Primer 002
Product Claims:
  1. Smoothes
  2. Resurfaces
  3. Brightens
  4. Mattifies
  5. Protects
  6. Prolongs foundation wear
For me, the first two claims go hand in hand. This product does smooth and even out the skin's texture. I have enlarged pores on my cheeks, and although they are still noticeable when I use the primer, my skin feels super smooth, and my foundations glide on easily, and my enlarged pores are not as noticeable once the foundation is applied.

I haven't really noticed any brightening effects with this primer so the third claim, I'm just going to cross out. However, this primer does mattify the skin once applied, and depending on the climate you live it, it just might keep you matte for half the day or even all day. For me, I usually have to blot after 3 hours of initial application, but then again oily/combo skin, in the Caribbean, it's to be expected.

Finally, the claim that it protects is slightly vague. I will say that I haven't broken out while using this primer, and I've not noticed any clogged pores. If the claim protects means it protects the skin from whatever you apply on top of it (which all primers basically do by creating a barrier between your skin care products and makeup), then yes it does the job.

Product and Texture:

This product is a white, lotion type primer that dries down clear. It has a very strong fragrance, but it wanes after being applied. The scent reminds me of baby lotion, so if you can't stand heavy fragrances, I'll recommend trying another primer.

Conclusion:
I got so wrapped up in using this primer since I purchased it, that it became an everyday staple. This definitely a product that I will buy again. I will however have to add a mattifer on top just to have added oil control, but even without a dedicated mattifier, I really do enjoy this primer. I still can't believe I didn't notice earlier how much I enjoyed this primer, and I'm sad that it's almost finished. If you are in the market for a good drugstore primer, although the e.l.f Mineral Face Primer is my hands down favourite, Rimmel Fix & Perfect comes it very closely in second place.

Thank you all for visiting my blog once again, I hope you all enjoyed. Next week I am hoping to do a skin care routine post *fingers crossed*
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I shall talk to you again very soon. Stay happy, positive and healthy, until next time....
Bye guys (^_^)/

L.A Girl Cosmetics Matte Flat Finish Pigment Glosses Swatches and Review

Hello everyone! Welcome back!

I'm feeling better this week, so I decided to play with my L.A. Girl Cosmetics Matte Flat Finish Pigment Glosses that I recently purchased. If you live in Trinidad and want to get your hands on these, you can find them at Tres Belle Cosmetique, Wonderful World, or you can order them from The BeautyBox 868.

I have four shades to share with you today, two of the shades, I've done wear tests with. The shades I own are;
  1. Fleur - peachy nude
  2. Rebel - a mid tone purpley-mauve shade
  3. Secret - deep brick red
  4. Backstage - deep/vampy berry (with purple undertones)
L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss
Wear Testing
I've worn both Fleur (to work) and Rebel (visiting my grandma), and I can say that they are very lightweight, and they do tend to stay the lips for a long time. They wear beautifully throughout the day, even if you are eating and drinking, I'd say approximately 5-6 hours...I lost track of time.....but they leave a nice stain to the lips.

Application
In terms of application, the product has a flat doe type applicator that makes it easy to get the product on and remain within the lines of the lips. However, I do use a lip liner with Fleur, because on it's own it tends to wash out my complexion. These glosses take a while to set, usually about 1minutes (60 seconds) for one layer, and I would advise not smacking your lips together while the product is setting, because it causes the product to flake off.

Backstage & Secret (Lip Swatches)
Backstage is the only one of my four that requires two layers to get the true colour, although on my lips Rebel doesn't look as purple as the swatch but I still really love the colour I get in one layer.

Lip Swatch of Backstage (2 layers)
Secret is going to become a staple for me, because I absolutely adore red lips.
Lip Swatch of Secret (1 layer)
In the end, these are very good products for the price (I paid $35TT on sale), and if you like liquid lipsticks, give these a try. They're inexpensive, long lasting, pigmented, matte without being overly drying the lips, and the chubby packaging is super cute.

Before I end, I just wanted to thank those of you who read my post last week. I'm not usually one to talk about feeling down, however, as I grow older, and I get closer to my dream of becoming a psychologist, it will be important for me to talk about particular topics, mostly mental health, and I se my blog as a great way to integrate that practice.

Thanks again for coming back to my blog, if you're new, then thank you for stopping by and I hope you will pay my blog another visit. Until next Friday, I hope you all stay happy, positive, and healthy!

Bye (^_^)/
